One reason why I avoided offering newborn photography sessions in the past, was that I didn’t want to go down the path of posed baby photos. You know the ones – awkward posing, backdrops, and a menagerie of props. Not that there is anything wrong with that style of photography, but it is just not my thing or what I want to offer in the way of family portraits. My style is more about capturing families in a documentary and lifestyle manner, to tell authentic stories of family life. While new parents are experiencing many new adjustments, the best way to approach a newborn or baby lifestyle session is to relax and enjoy and to be yourselves. I allow plenty of time for these sessions to make sure everyone is relaxed, and of course allow time for feeding and sleeping. My newborn sessions generally take place in your home environment where you and your baby are most comfortable, especially while you are settling into your new routine. Here are some favourites from Lisa, Nathan and little Jesse’s session.
